Thermal cookers and boat meals

I’m writing this as I sit on our sofa, in front of the fire watching Return of the King (for the umpteenth time), stuffed to the gills with chicken in cider cooked in our thermal cooker.

I’m a little bit in love with my Mr D’s thermal cooker and think I’ve managed to convince Trev too 😋😋

We’d seen these at the the boat show over a year ago and had resisted as we hadn’t a boat and thought this might all be a bit of a dream.  We browned the chicken off, added the veg, stock & cider.  Bought it to the boil and simmered for 5minutes, popped it into the outer casing and buggered off to Leicester on the bikes.  Fast forward 8 hours and I’ve won the bet that the half full pot would be ‘tepid’*.  The inside temperature was over 50 degrees … cue smug face 😏😏

It’s a comforting thought that we’ll be able to have some of our favourite food without using too much fuel.

*tepid = 40 degrees

There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
